Golf outing raises more than $480,000 for cancer care vision at NCH

Despite COVID-19 and threatening weather, Foundation breaks fundraising record

Northwest Community Hospital Foundation’s 23rd annual Golf Classic at Medinah Country Club on August 10 raised more than $480,000 in net proceeds and far surpassed previous fundraising records for this longstanding event. Funds will support an ambitious plan to transform cancer care for the region. SEI was the Title Sponsor of the 2020 outing that also included an online silent auction and raffle that garnered support from attendees as well as members of the community. The Golf Classic has raised more than $11 million in gross revenue in its 23-year history.

“In a very difficult time in healthcare, the optimism and support shown to us by our valued friends was uplifting,” shared Henry Dominicis, M.D., co-chair of the event and physician director of Ambulatory Services at NCH.

Changes, such as social distancing measures, were implemented to help the golfers that attended not only enjoy the day but also stay safe. If COVID-19 wasn’t enough, the threat of unusually severe weather that day will add to the memories of this event for years to come. Luckily, most golfers nearly completed the course before the weather came in strong.

Event co-chair Giancarlo Pacini, who is Senior Vice President of Healthcare and Senior Living with Leopardo Construction, remarked, “Enhancing cancer care for our entire region brought so many people and organizations together. There was nothing but positivity the entire time, and I just feel honored to have been able to be part of it.”

“The prognosis for cancer patients has been improving over the years, however the rates of diagnosis and the need for oncology services continue to rise. NCH is working to improve each step of this frightening journey for patients and their families – to take our outstanding programs, physicians and care teams and make them even better,” says NCH Foundation Executive Director David Ungurean. “We are incredibly grateful for the supporters of our Golf Classic who are playing an enormous role in helping our vision for cancer care become a reality.”
