In the NCH Pediatric Acute Care Center, we specialize in treating infants, children and teens for their acute conditions and injuries, partnering with parents to address all family needs. Our Pediatric Acute Care Center is open 24 hours each day, 7 days a week to ensure children get the care they need when they need it.

Our pediatric team includes experienced pediatric-trained nurses and physicians, in partnership with pediatric specialists from the Chicagoland Children’s Health Alliance and in collaboration with emergency providers, to deliver optimal care to kids of all ages, down to the tiniest newborn. Our location is adjacent to the main Emergency Department at Northwest Community Hospital, 800 W. Central Avenue in Arlington Heights.

We are fully prepared and ready to safely welcome you, following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health authorities, using the best practices for hygiene, infection control and social distancing. Don’t wait to get the emergency care you need.

Our pediatric staff are skilled in calming the fears of children (and parents). Each patient room has a TV/DVD player and picture books, coloring books, games and toys available for all.

Our patient rooms are spacious to accommodate the whole family and all they bring with them, including stroller and car seats.
Special, safe waiting area for siblings
We provide a dedicated space for reading, playing games, coloring or watching TV during the family’s visit.
24/7 care for pediatric patients
The Pediatric Acute Care Center accepts patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with pediatric-trained nurses and physicians on-site every hour of the day and working in collaboration with emergency-trained nurses and physicians.

Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP)

NCH’s pediatric emergency department has been recognized by the state of Illinois for providing specialized emergency care for children. The pediatric emergency staff is specially trained to care for children in all emergencies, using child-sized equipment and following pediatric guidelines for weight-based dosing of medications.

Animal-Assisted Therapy

For all of our animal lovers, specially trained dogs and their handlers bring children and families comfort and distraction in the Pediatric Acute Care Center, easing stress and worry with their calm, loving presence.
