The National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) has granted Level 3 Epilepsy Center Accreditation to Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH). One of six hospitals in the state to have the Level 3 NAEC Accredited Center designation, NCH has been recognized by the NAEC for having professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level of medical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.
“Specialized epilepsy centers provide routine care to individuals with seizures or epilepsy, and specialize in providing comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services to individuals with uncontrolled seizures,” the NAEC website states.
NCH offers refractory patients comprehensive epilepsy care including state-of-the-art neuro-diagnostic equipment, a multidisciplinary approach consisting of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, and EEG technologists, and years of experience, according to Saju Abraham, M.D., NCH Medical Group Neurologist.
“It is wonderful to be able to care for our local communities without having to send them to distant hospitals for further evaluations that we could perform in-house, such as continuous video-EEG monitoring, device implantations and some epilepsy surgeries,” Dr. Abraham says. “We are also excited to team up with Northwestern to share their expertise in treating our most difficult cases.”
The NCH Neuroscience Center provides exceptional care for patients with epileptic disorders. Specialists at the center use a number of tests to diagnose and better understand each patient’s seizure disorder, including American College of Radiology (ACR)-certified magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); Electroencephalogram (EEG); Multi-slice computerized tomography (CT); Positron emission tomography (PET); and sleep studies.
Epilepsy can result from a wide variety of disorders, including brain injury and stroke. To make an appointment with an NCH neurologist, call 1-844-NCH-HEALTH.
