Clinical Trials

At the forefront of research

NCH participates in a variety of clinical trials to evaluate the effectiveness of new medicines, therapies and treatments. Part of this effort is to make sure that physicians have access to the latest and most advanced research. We participate in national research programs for a variety of diseases including breast, prostate and brain cancers.

Specific clinical trials include:

  • The study of conventional whole breast irradiation versus partial breast irradiation in various stages of breast cancer
  • New finger joint replacement for the treatment of arthritis due to trauma or systemic causes (Rheumatoid or Osteoarthritis)
  • Double-blind, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the efficacy of Zometa for the prevention of osteoporosis and associated fractures in patients receiving radiation therapy and long term LHRH agonists for high-grade and/or locally advanced prostate cancer
  • Molecular epidemiology case-series study of on-small cell lung cancer in smokers and non-smokers – men and women
  • Phase III randomized trial of the role of whole brain radiation therapy in addition to radio surgery in patients with one to three cerebral metastases
