We understand that a cancer diagnosis can bring with it a wide range of physical, emotional and spiritual challenges, especially when you are undergoing treatment. At Northwest Community Hospital (NCH), our clinical experts are committed to your overall health and well-being. Whether it's through the expertise of our nurse navigators or guidance from our oncology social worker, NCH offers personalized services and resources to support you through each step of your cancer journey – from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and wellness.
Together, with the American Cancer Society (ACS), NCH offers two unique resources that specifically offer support during the cancer treatment process. The ACS Wig Boutique at NCH and the popular Look Good … Feel Better class have empowered and restored confidence in a countless number of brave women faced with cancer.
Opened in late 2011, the ACS Wig Boutique is a free resource available to women undergoing cancer treatment, whether at NCH or another medical facility. The Wig Boutique offers cancer patients with a private consultation and fitting, a brand new wig, and other accessories as available – all at no cost. With a wide selection of brand new synthetic wigs, as well as hats, turbans and scarves, you'll be sure to find the perfect style, color, and accessory that match your lifestyle and personal preference. Our full suite of wigs will help you feel better inside and out.
If you are considering a wig, we encourage you to chose one before treatment begins or as early as possible. To schedule your free consultation, contact the American Cancer Society at 800.227.2345 and request the Northwest Community Hospital location. Hours vary, and consultations are by appointment only. The ACS Wig Boutique is part of the NCH Oncology Boutique and is conveniently located in Suite 5400 of the Busse Center at Northwest Community Hospital. Click here to download our brochure.
"I was quite surprised at how much time you took with me, my daughter and daughter-in-law. I tried on a number of wigs and hats before deciding on a wig that was close to my own color and style."
"I was equally surprised when I found out there was no charge for the wig. What a wonderful feeling to know this program is in place for those of us with cancer. Thank you for a wonderful experience!"
This free class teaches beauty techniques to women who are actively undergoing cancer treatment to help you combat the appearance-related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. The program is taught by a cosmetologist and participants receive a free make-up kit valued at $250.
Look Good…Feel Better® is co-Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, and the National Cosmetology Association. Sessions are held in the Radiation Oncology/Ambulatory Infusion Clinic at NCH.
